Beard Family Trips & Vacations

Niagara Falls, NY

October 6, 2011 - Niagara Falls State Park

Pictures from the Niagara Falls State Park:

Statue of Chief Clinton Rickard, founder of the Indian Defense League in 1926, is located near the entrance to the park in the Great Lakes Garden.

The visitor center where you can purchase passes or exchange vouchers in the top leve.  The theater for the movie, the gift shop, and the cafe are located on a lower level.

Rainbows are very common here.  Canada is just across the Niagara River.

The Maid of the Mist boat tour on the Canadian side.

Overlooking the falls from the top in the state park.

A couple of the Maid of the Mist boats going into the fall's mist.  Boats from either side of the river follow the same route.

The gift store and the entrance to the overlook platform and Maid of the Mist boat tour from the US side.

The overlook platform for the US side.

I let Wanda use my camera once on the whole trip.

Looking at the falls from the overlook platform.

Watching the people walking up the steps along the fall area.  All the blue are ponchos that are provided.

Looking in the opposite direction from the overlook platform.

Another look at the Maid of the Mist dock on the Canadian side from the overlook platform.

Looking at the American Falls from the Maid of the Mist boat.

Looking at the Horseshoe Falls from the Maid of the Mist boat.  A lot of mist in the air.  Had to go undercover and hide the camera so it didn't get too wet.

Passing one of the boats from the Canadian side.

Each boat has an American and Canadian flag on it.

Looking back at the Horseshoe Falls.

Past the American Falls again on the way back to the dock.

Looking at the Niagara River and the Canadian side from the Discovery Center museum.  Planet Hollywood and Hard Rock Cafe Canada are visibile.

The following set of pictures were taken at the Aquarium at Niagara Falls, which is part of the state park.

Entrance to the aquarium.  There is a parking lot next to it if we had wanted to drive.

First thing you see after paying at the desk, where the gift shop area is, will be the penguin exhibit.

An exhibit with sharks complete with a shark cage that you can enter.

Hermit crabs and lobsters.

Various fish were in the collection such as the Pajama Cardinal fish and the Black Lion fish.

Poison tree frogs as with most aquariums.

The arena where they do the sea lion shows.

These two don't perform too often.

This guy is trying to find the exit.  He actually hangs over the stairway between the two floors.

The next picture group is from the Cave of the Winds trip where you take an elevator down to a cave, exit at the river level, and walk along a series of boardwalks to the American Falls.

They provide yellow ponchos at this location.  If you get the chance, and visit the Maid of the Mist first, keep that ponch (it's supposed to be a souvenir) and use it here.  The blue one is a better quality.

Some of the rapids at the bottom of the American Falls that you are next to on the boardwalk.  The whole area is very slippery and wet.

This set of pictures are from the Three Sisters islands in the park.

Some of the changing foliage in the area.

Playing with the way the water was coming through the area and seeing what type of pictures I could get.

Watched these birds for a little while as we rested on some boulders.

More foliage.

Exiting the park with the hotel directly in front of us.
